History

Drangshlíð is one of the older farms in Eyjafjöll area and the same family has lived here since 1801.

The current owners, Jón Guðmundsson and Oddný Björg Hólmbergsdóttir, have lived in Drangshlíð since 1975.

When Jón and Oddný moved to Drangshlíð they had a 2 year old son, Karl Víðir, and later they had two other children, Þóru Björk, born in 1976 and Guðmund, born in 1984. From 1975 until 1992 the family lived on farming (milk production and growing vegetables).

In 1992 Jón and Oddný decided to rebuild the old residence house and use their current residence, built in 1979, as accommodationa and joined Icelandic Farm Holidays the same year.

From 1992 - 1996 Jón, Oddný and the family continued with milk production, but in 1996 they decided to quit with milk production and concentrate on building up the farm holiday.

From 1996-1999 Farm Holiday Drangshlid made some big changes to the current houses and added a restaurant area and increased the number of rooms from 6 rooms with shared facilities to 15 rooms with private facilities.

In 2003 we added a new wing to one of our houses, increasing the total number of rooms by 10, so that we had 25 rooms with privat facilities.

The most recent change was the buidling of 7 new rooms on the foundation of the old cowshed in 2009. We are currently in the process of building a new reception for the hotel and changing the old barn to a recreational area.
